“I am the light of the World”, says the Lord, “anyone who follows me will have the light of light of life”. John 8:12.
Yes, we are the fortunate ones who are ‘hot-wired’ to receive the grace which guarantees salvation but we must make the vital call to seek Our Lord’s protection from the snares and temptations which are all about us. We live in a world the cultural values of which are based predominantly on greed, sensationalism, hedonism and doing as little as possible to walk humbly with God carrying the candle of faithfulness within our souls.
God calls us to be saints and this means becoming holy which may seem a little frightening. We have to decide which of our habits are taking us closer to God and which of them are ‘self destructive’ and must be rooted out with God’s help. The Saints were encouraged in their endeavours to become holy, because the prize was so precious, the love of God. Moreover, the Saints knew that what God did for them was infinitely more important than anything they could do for themselves.
