Pilate therefore said to him: Art thou a king then? Jesus answered: Thou sayest that I am a king. For this was I born, and for this came I into the world; that I should give testimony to the truth. Every one that is of the truth, heareth my voice.
We have a bone of contention, my son and I: was Richard III of England a good man and a good king. Was he a murderous uncle?
We cannot know the full truth as the evidence available was spun by the usurping Tudors, so is hardly trustworthy.
Was Pilate listening to Jesus?
All too often I feel today’s political leaders spin the truth to suit their own agenda; but it is an ever present temptation for many more than just them!
If we are to be ‘of the truth’ we must listen, how else will we hear? If we are to speak the truth, we must have heard it and treasured it in our hearts.
Let us pray for wisdom to recognise the truth and to know which treasures of truth to bring out in conversation and lead others to God’s Mercy.
