David Powell, R.I.P.

Dear Readers,

David Powell died at 9.30 yesterday evening in the Pilgrims’ Hospice, Canterbury. Fr Tom Herbst and I had visited him that morning for a final anointing.

David had been ill for some months. Nevertheless, he had been a faithful friend to the Franciscan International Study Centre to the very end, coming to the closing ceremonies and the final public Mass in June.

We pray confidently that he will be received into the divine presence, with his beloved Olive at his side. As Friar Austin says, A good man gone to God – may he rest in peace.

The arrangements for David’s funeral will be made shortly.

David’s last story for this blog was a happy tale of childhood. We have just republished it: Let it snow! Read, enjoy, and say one for David.
