Brother Chris (CD) remained in Canterbury after the Franciscan International Study Centre closed. One of his duties was to find homes for the books and periodicals in the Library. He writes:
We eventually moved 20,000 books to Zimbabwe and 6,000 to Zambia and closed down the Study Centre. But the Franciscan Collection of 5,000 books was kept together and transferred to the library of St. Mary’s University in Twickenham, where archives and collections from other congregations are already curated.
Dr. Peter Tyler, as head of Spirituality there, asked also that we should organise a one day conference, on the topic of Rediscovering the Roots of Franciscan Spirituality. This will publicise the availability of the collection, and will take place on Saturday 12th May. More details can be found on St. Mary’s website. I am attaching a poster that should serve as an invitation to anyone interested in taking part.
